TikTok Shop in Europe: what to check before adding a sales channel

Check market availability, operational readiness and channel economics before making social commerce part of your sales plan.

TikTok Shop interests retailers because it connects product discovery and purchasing. An engaging video, however, is not enough reason to add another sales channel. First check whether your business can open an account, which products it can offer and whether the economics work. Businesses in Croatia and Slovenia should distinguish European expansion from confirmed local availability.

What is confirmed and what remains open

In its 31 August report, TikTok confirmed June expansion into eight additional EU markets. [1]

The Global Listing guide lists 13 EU markets, including Germany and Austria. Croatia and Slovenia are absent. This describes the checked list, rather than announcing when either country will join. [2]

The cross-border programme starts with successful onboarding of a source shop in the business's country. It does not establish automatic access for every EU business. [3]

We did not find a confirmed launch date for Croatia or Slovenia in the checked documents. Do not tie your marketing plan to a guessed month. Before paying for an integration, check Seller Center eligibility for the actual business. Being active on TikTok and being eligible for TikTok Shop are separate questions.

Choose products you can explain clearly

We recommend starting with a small selection. Choose products whose benefits can be demonstrated clearly, with reliable stock and useful descriptions. Film actual use, dimensions or an answer to a common question. If a video misrepresents size, package contents or results, greater reach magnifies the problem.

Prepare a unique identifier, price, variants, photographs and customer information for each product. Agree who approves content before release. A well-organised catalogue also benefits your own online shop when a new channel is not yet available.

Calculate what remains after an order

Revenue and profit are different. Include procurement, packaging, delivery, returns, content production, advertising and any fees or commissions applicable to your actual account. Do not copy someone else's percentages without checking current pricing and conditions.

Test the sensitivity of that calculation. What happens when delivery costs increase or more orders are returned? How much extra work do ten additional orders create? A product with a good margin on your own website may perform differently on another channel.

Agree content and operational responsibility

Give a creator a clear brief: who the product helps, which claims have evidence and what the video should demonstrate. We recommend assessing audience fit and explanation quality alongside views. Popularity alone does not establish sales impact.

Before the first campaign, assign responsibility for stock, customer questions and order handling. Consider how the new channel affects the existing shop. The experience after purchase needs as much attention as the video that prompted it.

Start with a bounded test

Choose one product group and define spending and a review period. Track orders, contribution to profit, returns and the time required to deliver. Do not expand the catalogue merely because an initial video attracted attention. Justify expansion through outcomes and the ability to fulfil customer promises.

Frequently asked questions

When will TikTok Shop launch in Croatia and Slovenia?

The checked sources do not provide a confirmed date. Follow official announcements and registration eligibility rather than rumours.

Should we close our own webshop?

We recommend keeping the existing shop and assessing the additional channel with a limited test. Spending should follow business results.

What can we prepare now?

A clean catalogue, useful demonstrations, cost calculations and an order-handling process. These preparations are useful without assuming platform availability.
